Everything HourProof Does: Web & Mobile Features for Tracking Material Participation

Proving material participation comes down to one thing: a detailed, contemporaneous record of the work you did on your rentals. HourProof is built to make that record effortless to create and easy to defend — and it now runs everywhere you do. Here is a full tour of what the app can do.

One account, every device

HourProof is available on iOS, Android, and the web. Sign in once with Google, Apple, or email and your activities, properties, evidence, and progress stay in sync across phone, tablet, and browser. Log a quick note on your phone between turnovers, then sit down at your laptop to review the month and export for your CPA — it is all the same data.

Four ways to log an activity

The fastest record is the one you actually make. HourProof gives you four ways to capture a participation entry so there is no excuse to fall behind:

AI and voice logging are available on the Pro and Premium plans; receipt scanning is a Premium feature. Manual logging is always free.

Evidence, attached to the work

Hours are stronger when something corroborates them. HourProof lets you attach photos, receipts, and documents directly to the activities they belong to, so the evidence travels with the entry instead of living in a separate folder. An evidence gallery gives you one place to browse everything you have attached across the year.

Insights that show where you stand

The Insights view turns your raw log into a picture of your year at a glance:

Material-participation standing, always current

The Compliance view tracks your indicative standing against the IRS §469 material participation tests as you log:

A live evidence checklist sits alongside the tests so you can see what would strengthen your position. Status language stays indicative — HourProof is record-keeping support, not tax advice; your CPA makes the call.

Exports your CPA will actually accept

When it is time to file or hand things off, HourProof produces organized, professional output instead of a raw spreadsheet:

Properties and bookings

Organize your work by property — short-term (STR) or long-term (LTR) — so hours and progress are tracked where they belong. You can also connect a booking calendar feed so your reservation activity lines up with the work you log around it.

Getting started

The fastest way to see it is to use it. Open the web app, log a few of this week's activities — by typing, voice, or a receipt scan — and watch your Insights and Compliance views come to life. Then download the iOS or Android app so you can capture work the moment it happens.

Get started on the web — sign in with Google, Apple, or email. Already tracking on mobile? Everything you have logged is waiting for you in the browser.

FAQ

Is HourProof available on the web?

Yes. HourProof runs on the web at hourproof.app in addition to the iOS and Android apps. You can sign in with Google, Apple, or email and your activities, properties, and evidence stay in sync across every device.

Can I log activities without typing?

Yes. Besides the manual form, HourProof lets you describe an activity in plain language and have it parsed into a structured entry, dictate it with voice, or scan a receipt photo to prefill the merchant, amount, date, and a description. AI and voice logging are available on Pro and Premium plans; receipt scanning is a Premium feature.

Does HourProof track the IRS material participation tests?

Yes. The Compliance view shows your indicative standing against the §469 tests — the 750-hour and 500-hour tests, the 100-hour short-term-rental test (more hours than any other individual), and the more-than-any-other-individual test — based on your logged hours and tracked participants. It is record-keeping support, not tax advice.

Can I export my records for my CPA?

Yes. HourProof generates a tax-package PDF, a Schedule E-style CSV, a §469 summary CSV, and an evidence-pack ZIP that bundles your activities with their attached photos and receipts — organized and ready to hand to a tax professional.
